12/30/2023 0 Comments Grateful dead morning dew![]() Come to find out he had been arrested earlier. I went into the last show thinking that I would meet my friend in our regular seating area. The people in the van were writing down descriptions of all the undercover people they encountered and passing the information out to their friends. I was in a van with some folks and a guy got tackled right in front of the vehicle. A young kid walked by around 12 years old and looked over to see what was going on and the cop told him to get the f*** out of there. He kept telling the cop to get up off of him because he promised to roll one. I remember one dude on the ground being busted by an undercover cop that did not really understand what was going on. ![]() I could not believe the police crack down. When I got to the venue it was apparent the times they were a changing. I saw them there the year before and had a great time them. I thought the shows in Atlanta were ok and really enjoyed the show in Columbia, SC. Needless to say, it made for some very unusual camping after the shows and driving between shows. The remnants of Hurricane Gloria followed the tour up the coast. I saw the shows at the Fox Theater and Columbia Coliseum prior to the ones in Richmond. The transition to it after space was awesome. This one had one of the best Morning Dews I ever saw. I had to figure out a way to get back to Charlotte and was glad I found another friend who offered a ride back. ![]() ![]() Great Show - Bad SceneI am glad that I attended this show. Goose bumps to this day when I hear that transition from space> Dew.and Phil in his flannel shirt. And Baby Blue.still have the cassette but it is fading. Phil's bass had my clothes shaking on my body. Once inside, I will never forget the intro to Morning Dew. Karma for all the un-warranted head cracking they had been doing. I vividly remember a cop in front of us in a goal keepers stance and Marvin kicking him in the balls and the crowd rolling over him. There was no turning back, no willful "gate crashing" only forward or getting trampled to death.anyone remember the Who in Cincinnati, 1979? Once inside, what's a poor boy to do? Not proud of it, but shit happens. At almost 16 years old, I was literally lifted off the ground and pushed through the door by the crowd swell. Certainly there was someone or two who first lunged at the door but once the wave started, there was no stopping it. The cops had some poor woman in a headlock inside and when they popped the door to throw her out the crowd outside moved in making me a "gate crasher". The show started and Bertha was crankin'. 2nd showTried in vain to get tickets.again.
